A splash pad in Texas heat? Yes please. With my four kids, a splash pad is basically a survival tool.

Is Hutto adding more parks?

Yes. Hutto invested $13.4 million in parks over the past four years, manages about 350 acres of parkland and expects to add 250 to 300 more acres over the next three to five years. A 2024 rule change also requires new developments to dedicate more parkland (Community Impact). Other projects on the list include a disc golf course at Creekside Park and solar trail lights at Hutto Lake and Cross Creek.

The city is also taking steps toward running its own fire department, one more sign of how fast Hutto is growing.

What’s it like living in Hutto?

Hutto has kept its small-town personality, and yes, the hippos are everywhere. (It’s the town mascot, and people go all in.) The historic Co-op District downtown has local restaurants and events, and you’re a quick drive to Round Rock’s shopping, dining and Dell Diamond.

For commuting, you’ll use US 79 and SH 130 to get around. If you work in Round Rock or North Austin, the drive can be pretty manageable. If you work downtown, test that commute at rush hour first. Most of Hutto is zoned to Hutto ISD (verify with the district for any address).

My honest take on Hutto

Here’s what I’d actually do. If you want a newer home with a yard and you’re working north or remotely, put Hutto on your list. Spend a Saturday at Fritz Park, grab dinner in the Co-op District, then drive your weekday commute. Compare a resale home with a new build, and look at total monthly cost, not just price. Obviously, I can help you do this just give me a call and let’s make a plan!
